Kanyam, Nepal, Travelogue

Kanyam, a small village located in the Ilam district of eastern Nepal, is a hidden gem that is yet to be fully discovered by tourists. I recently had the opportunity to visit Kanyam, and I was mesmerized by its natural beauty and the warm hospitality of its people.

My journey to Kanyam began with a scenic drive through winding roads surrounded by lush green tea gardens. The tea gardens of Kanyam are one of the main attractions of the village, and they are spread over vast expanses of land. The tea bushes looked like neatly trimmed green hedges, and the tea leaves shimmered in the sunlight.

Upon reaching Kanyam, I was welcomed by the locals with warm smiles and friendly greetings. The people of Kanyam are predominantly farmers and tea garden workers, and they are proud of their village's natural beauty and rich cultural heritage.

I stayed in a homestay run by a local family, and it was one of the best decisions I made. The homestay was a typical Nepali-style house made of wood and stone, and it had a stunning view of the tea gardens and the mountains in the distance. The family was incredibly hospitable, and they treated me like a member of their own family. They served me delicious home-cooked meals made with locally grown produce, and we spent our evenings chatting over cups of steaming hot tea.

During my stay in Kanyam, I also explored the nearby attractions. The Kanyam bazaar is a small market where the locals sell their produce, including fresh vegetables, fruits, and tea. The market was bustling with activity, and the vibrant colors of the fruits and vegetables were a feast for the eyes.

I also visited the nearby Mai Pokhari Lake, a beautiful natural lake surrounded by dense forests. The lake was crystal clear, and I could see the reflection of the trees and the mountains in the water. The lake is considered sacred by the locals, and there is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva on its banks.

Overall, my experience in Kanyam was unforgettable. The village's natural beauty, warm hospitality, and rich cultural heritage left a lasting impression on me. I would highly recommend Kanyam to anyone who wants to experience the true essence of Nepal.
